Find a Community Issue
Choose a single community from last week. Now we will look at what opportunities are available to assist that community – this will be your community issue.
When you are with / in your community, what do you see that stops people?
- What roadblocks are there in the community – language; physical?
- Is the community diverse or is there a barrier for joining?
- What obstacles do people face? Is there a way to smooth the path?
Reflect
What do you wish you could change about your community?
- Is there something you would like to see in your community?
- Is there something in your community you wish would go away?
- Is there something that could be improved in your community?
- What does your community need?
What do you hear others say about your community they wish they could change?
- Where/when do you hear others talk about your community?
- What discussion occurs in the community newspaper/newsletter/social media?
- If some sort of voting occurs in the community, what proposals have been made recently?
Brainstorm
Use Mind Mapping to brainstorm on the community issues
- Set a timer and write down all the issues in your community
- When time is up, go back and group the ideas into related items – one item may be in multiple groups
- Pick a grouped issue to delve into to identify root cause and perform more research (more next week on how to do this)
- Use our resource for guidance on mind mapping. https://mailchi.mp/80af609d294d/passionandissue
